The core of an integral‑type instrument ball valve achieves fluid on/off control and regulation by rotating the built‑in ball. Its monolithic design integrates the valve body, ball, valve seat, and actuating components (such as handles and actuators) into a single unit that cannot be disassembled, thereby reducing connection points and minimizing the risk of leakage.
Working Principle of an Integrated Instrument Ball Valve

Example of a 3-way valve product
01. Opening, closing, and regulating control process
• On status: The actuating assembly (handle or actuator) rotates the valve stem by 90°, aligning the flow passage in the ball with the pipeline axis, allowing the medium to pass through the valve smoothly.
• Closed status: The actuator drives the valve stem to rotate 90° in the reverse direction, aligning the flow passage within the ball perpendicular to the pipeline axis. The ball then tightly seats against the valve seat, forming a sealing barrier that shuts off media flow.
• Flow regulation (on select models): By adjusting the rotation angle of the sphere, the degree to which the flow passage aligns with the pipe axis is altered, thereby regulating the medium flow rate.
02. Auxiliary sealing mechanism
• Valve stem seal: Multiple O-rings or PTFE packing glands are installed at the connection between the valve stem and the valve body; in some cases, an integral molded packing seal is used to minimize mating clearances and leakage paths. These features also provide self-lubrication, reducing wear during stem movement, extending sealing life, and preventing media leakage along the stem.
• Pressure-assisted sealing: The medium’s own pressure presses the valve seat against the ball, with higher pressure yielding better sealing performance. Meanwhile, the spring‑loaded design automatically compensates for seat wear, ensuring long‑term sealing integrity and minimizing seat erosion caused by sudden pressure fluctuations, making it suitable for a wide range of high‑ and low‑pressure operating conditions.
• Enhanced structural sealing: The integral casting/welding process eliminates connection gaps in the valve body, while the precision fit between the flow passage, ball, and valve seat further prevents potential leakage.
JW-LOK Product Specifications
JW-LOK’s BO series of integral‑type instrument ball valves are forged as a single piece, with a seamless design that eliminates leaks. Featuring 90° rotary actuation, they offer both durability and low maintenance costs, making them a reliable choice for high‑pressure, low‑flow control applications.
