Working Principle of BD Series Ball Valves
01. Opening, closing, and control process

Example of BD Series 3-Way Switching Valve Products
Enabled status:
The valve stem is rotated by a handwheel or an optional pneumatic or electric actuator, which in turn drives the floating ball to rotate, aligning the flow passage within the ball with the axis of the valve body’s flow path. This allows the medium to pass through the flow passage smoothly, with extremely low fluid resistance. A two-way valve enables bidirectional flow without requiring distinction between inlet and outlet, simplifying installation and operation.
The three-way switching valve strictly adheres to the flow direction requirement, with Port 1 serving as the inlet and Ports 2 and 3 as the outlets, thereby ensuring orderly fluid flow.
Closed state:
The valve stem is rotated in the reverse direction, aligning the flow passage within the ball perpendicular to the axis of the valve body’s flow path. At this point, the floating ball undergoes a slight displacement under the action of the medium pressure, tightly seating against the valve seat to form a sealing barrier that shuts off the flow. Simultaneously, the medium pressure further presses the ball against the seat, enhancing sealing reliability and ensuring leak‑free operation even under high‑pressure conditions, thereby meeting the product’s stringent high‑pressure sealing requirements.
02. Core Advantages
When the valve seat experiences slight wear during prolonged operation, the floating ball, paired with a disc-spring pre‑load compensation mechanism, can automatically fine‑tune its position under the action of process fluid pressure and the elastic pre‑load of the disc springs. This real‑time adjustment compensates for wear‑induced gaps, ensuring consistently excellent sealing performance without the need for frequent disassembly and maintenance, thereby significantly reducing long‑term operating and maintenance costs—this is the core advantage of the BD series ball valve design.
JW-LOK Product Specifications
