A needle valve is a type of valve that allows for precise adjustment and is widely used, such as in setting the cutting distance during flame cutting. The knob used to regulate flame temperature is a needle valve. Instrument needle valves are an essential component of instrument measurement piping systems, primarily comprising globe valves and ball valves, whose function is to open or shut off the flow path. The valve plug of a needle valve is a sharply pointed conical body that inserts into the valve seat like a needle, hence its name.

Compared with other types of valves, needle valves with ferrule fittings can withstand higher pressures and offer excellent sealing performance; therefore, they are typically used for sealing gas or liquid media with low flow rates and high pressures. Needle valves equipped with pressure gauges are particularly well suited for such applications, and most needle valves with ferrule fittings are designed with threaded connections.

Corrosion protection methods for needle valves with ferrule fittings:

  1. The main materials used for valve bodies are stainless steel and carbon steel. Selecting the appropriate valve-body material is challenging, as it requires consideration of corrosion resistance, pressure and temperature ratings, cost-effectiveness, and ease of procurement, among other factors.

  2. Implement lining measures, such as lining with lead, aluminum, engineering plastics, natural rubber, and various synthetic rubbers. If the process conditions permit, this is a cost-effective approach.

  3. When pressure and temperature are low, using nonmetallic materials as the primary valve material can often effectively prevent corrosion.
